The fourth annual, Pennsylvania Garden Expo, sponsored by the
Pennsylvania Green Industry Foundation, is set to be held at the Farm
Show Arena in Harrisburg in March.
Pennsylvania Garden Expo Coming in March :
For the first time, Pontz Landscape Service, Inc. will be taking part in the
show.  Our twenty three hundred square foot display garden is titled
“Tranquil Retreat”(see plan below) and will feature a gazebo, two arbors,
a “Mantauk” flagstone patio and walkways, a ten by twenty foot pond
complete with fish and a waterfall, three bronze sculptures, outdoor low
voltage lighting, beautiful outdoor furnishings and a large assortment of
blooming shrubs, bulbs, perennials, plants and trees.   Visit the home
page of our web site for links to the companies assisting us with our
diplay

If you’re getting “spring fever”, we suggest that you check out this show
which, although only four years old, is already being billed as one of the
top garden shows on the east coast.  The moment you walk in the front
entrance, you’ll be amazed by all of the color and the fragrance of the
thousands of blooming flowers.  The show will include twenty beautifully
landscaped displays by some of the top landscape contractors in central
Pennsylvania and close to one hundred vendors will be manning sales
booths where you’ll find a vast array of garden supplies.  In addition,
numerous non-profit groups and close to twenty high schools will be
participating in the show.  During the entire four days of the show
speakers will be conducting over forty seminars on a wide array of
subjects.

The newest feature at this years Garden Expo is “Education in Bloom”.
Students from Pennsylvania horticultural schools and FFA organizations
have been invited to design and build landscaped display gardens.  Pontz
Landscape Service, Inc. will be assisting the Lancaster County Career
and Technology Centers, Landscape and Nursery Class (Brownstown
campus) with their display.  Approximately twenty other schools will also
be taking part.

During the annual employee Christmas party, held at Prudholmes Cajun Kitchen
Restaurant in Columbia, Pa., Daniel “Al” Jenkins was announced as the 2005 Pontz
Landscape Service, Inc. employee of the year.  Mitchel “Mitch” Barber was chosen as
the runner-up award recipient.

For their accomplishments, “Al” received an engraved clock/plaque and an additional
bonus and he had his name engraved on two wall plaques, one which is permanently
on display in the employee room and the other on display in our office.  Mitch received
an additional bonus.

The employee of the year is chosen by all of the employees as follows: each employee
receives a dozen ballot sheets; a separate ballot is provided for each employee.  On
each ballot, a dozen questions appear that relate to the employees performance.  A ten
point system is assessed to each question and the employee is rated as to how well he
performed.  The ballots are totaled and the employee who receives the highest number
of points is the winner.  There is a second place award for the employee who receives
the second highest number of points as well. The highest number of points that can be
earned is 1200.   “Al” won the 2005 award by accumulating a total of 1006 points.
Mitch came in a close second with 1003 points.
